“Gossip Girl” Celebrated Its Premiere With a Monse Fashion Show

Hello, Upper East Siders, and welcome to a new era. Gossip Girl 2.0 has officially arrived and, to celebrate, the show’s team hit the streets — or runways, more specifically — of New York City in style. Just hours before the show’s premiere on HBO Max, the new Gossip Girl hosted a fashion show in New York City in collaboration with Monse to debut the brand’s Fall 2021 collection.

According to Fashionista, Monse designers Fernando García and Laura Kim were inspired by paparazzi shots taken during the show’s early filming in conceptualizing their latest collection. Perfect for the students of Constance St. Jude, the brand offered to replicate any of their designs for Gossip Girl’s cast – with costume designer Eric Daman also on board, of course. “Obviously, it’s fun when you get an item on a TV show, but it’s not the caliber of this,” said Renee Prince Phillip, CEO of Monse. “It’s truly a fashion moment — this and Sex and the City. I think this can be very impactful.”

Livestreamed on YouTube, Twitter, and TikTok, the event kicked off with a short documentary on the inspiration behind the collection and the fashion of the new Gossip Girl as a whole. The show was opened by model Slick Woods, dressed to perfection in a uniform-like attire. The entire collection was ultimate school girl fashion, just as you’d hope for based on the show’s iconic aesthetic and history. Edgy, oversized, casual, and cooler than cool — Serena Van Der Woodsen would be so proud and fans prove it. “Alice and Olivia did a Gossip Girl line and now Monse I don’t have enough time to save up money to buy my favorite piece from each collection,” tweeted one viewer, pointing to the show’s impact in the industry.

We might have traded headbands and flip-phones for smartphones and Balenciaga Triple S sneakers but Gossip Girl is back – and it’s like she never even left. If you missed it, rewatch the Gossip Girl fashion show below:
