The 2021 Emmy nominations have finally arrived, celebrating the best and most noteworthy in television. This year’s Emmy nominees run the genre gamut. The Emmy categories keep expanding as buzzy streaming services like HBO Max, Amazon Prime, and Apple TV create their own content and shows like The Crown and Hacks become beloved favorites among TV fans. This year’s Emmys are also unique because many established shows didn’t film or release new episodes during the eligibility period (June 1, 2020, to May 31, 2021) due to the pandemic.
Last year, Schitt’s Creek dominated the Emmy winners, with the cast celebrating often during the socially distanced ceremony. We also saw Zendaya win her first Emmy, the Outstanding Lead Actress award, for her raw, revealing performance as Rue in HBO’s Euphoria. (She was the youngest person to be nominated in the category!) Will the 2021 installment have a few big winners or lots of surprises? We’ll have to wait and see but the nominations are the first step.
Unlike last year’s virtual festivities, the 2021 show, hosted by Cedric the Entertainer, will be broadcast live on September 19 on CBS and streamed on Paramount+. Below, check out the full list of 2021 Emmy nominations, updated as announced.
