New Music Friday: Normani Shows Her “Wild Side” Plus Shenseea, Ryan Trey, and More

Alessia Cara is back with two new singles ahead of the release of her third album – “Sweet Dreams” and “Shapeshifter.” The upbeat tempo of “Sweet Dreams” almost helps to camouflage the dark theme of the track, which paints the portrait of an insomniac troubled by the weight of her thoughts and feelings. “Shapeshifter,” on the other hand, touches on the mixed emotions of a person scorned by an insincere lover. “The theme of duality is recurring on this next album, so it made sense to release two songs to introduce both ends of the thread,” Cara recently said of the dual release, according to ET Canada.

Adekunle Gold, “Sinner”

Featuring Lucky Daye, Adekunle Gold’s “Sinner”is a track that gives off feel-good vibes while telling the story of a man trapped in the snare of a lover who has him on the brink of losing control. “Loving you be my greatest sin/Said I was done but see I’m here/ You don’t make it easy rara/ To stay away from yawa,” Adekunle confesses in the opening verse. Domenic Haynes, “Sabotage”

In this deeply reflective track, Domenic Haynes explores the universal issue of sabotage, self-betrayal, and how this internal battle threatens to keep us from reaching our greatest potential. “I tend to sabotage,” Domenic’s raspy voice sings over the track, which was produced by Charlie Myles, Guy Furious, and TrackTeam.

Shenseea, “Run Run”

Sheanseea is offering a sneak peek of what we can expect from her forthcoming debut album with her new single, “Run Run.” The mid-tempo dancehall track conveys the way-too-relatable tale of a woman who realizes a little too late that she has fallen for the wrong man. The accompanying visuals, however, depict a woman reclaiming her power and her heart from an unworthy lover.

Ryan Trey, “About a Girl”

Interscope talent Ryan Trey is back with new music and a video that’s a mind trip. In “About a Girl” he drives to a mysterious house where he encounters a beautiful woman, but when approached by her, he starts to hallucinate and runs away. The song follows the success of his last major single “Rollin” that racked in nearly 7 million views on Youtube. This time around, Ryan is giving us another R&B hit that’s hard to get off the brain.
