Britney Spears is directly calling out some of the people closest to her in her latest Instagram posts. The star, who is currently fighting for her freedom from the conservatorship she has lived under since 2008, posted two images to her feed and had a few choice words for her father and younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears, as well as those who poke fun at her at-home dance videos.
In the first post, which reads, “Never forget who ignored you when you needed them and who helped you before you even had to ask,” Britney wrote a lengthy caption about people who have been talking about her situation publicly. “There’s nothing worse than when the people closest to you who never showed up for you post things in regard to your situation whatever it may be and speak righteously for support … there’s nothing worse than that !!!!” Britney said. “How dare the people you love the most say anything at all … did they even put a hand out to even lift me up at the TIME !!!??? How dare you make it public that NOW you CARE … did you put your hand out when I was drowning ????”
In the second post, which reads, “Take me as I am or kiss my ass, eat sh*t and step on Legos,” Britney was much more direct and included references to both her father Jamie and younger sister, Jamie Lynn. “For those of you who choose to criticize my dancing videos … look I’m not gonna be performing on any stages anytime soon with my dad handling what I wear, say, do, or think !!!! I’ve done that for the past 13 years … I’d much rather share videos YES from my living room instead of onstage in Vegas …” she wrote. “And no I’m not gonna put on heavy makeup and try try try on stage again and not be able to do the real deal with remixes of my songs for years and begging to put my new music in my show for MY fans … so I quit !!!!”
Britney went on to mention her sister, who has previously spoken out about the situation after a great deal of pressure from Britney’s fans. “I don’t like that my sister showed up at an awards show and performed MY SONGS to remixes !!!!! My so-called support system hurt me deeply !!!!” (If you’re curious about what Britney is referring to, it’s likely this performance from 2017.)
After Britney’s June 23 hearing where her shocking testimony was made public, Jamie Lynn shared a statement via Instagram. “Maybe I didn’t support the way the public would like me to, with a hashtag on a public platform. But I can assure you that I have supported my sister long before there was a hashtag and I’ll support her long after,” she said in a video. “I have worked since I was 9 years old and I’ve paid my own freaking bills since I was 10 years old. Not that I owe the public anything because my sister knows I love and support her. That’s the only person I owe anything to. I am not my family. I am my own person. I am speaking for myself.”
Jamie Lynn has not publicly acknowledged or responded to Britney’s latest post at the time of writing.
