The news comes after the pilot wasn’t picked up by The CW, which chose to go back to the drawing board as far as writing and reshooting. The core trio was meant to be Chloe, Dove Cameron as Bubbles, and Yana Perrault as Buttercup, though the series will now recast Blossom sometime this fall.
Variety noted that Chloe’s schedule didn’t work with the new production schedule, though the network did want her to continue in the role. As far as the outlet knows, Dove and Yana will continue with their original roles. The series will follow Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup as young adults who are dealing with the aftermath of a childhood spent fighting crime, and figuring out whether they should reunite to save the day once more.
Dove opened up about the reason for the reshoot back in June, telling Entertainment Tonight, “It’s a really big piece of IP, and it’s tonally very specific. Like getting it right, making everybody happy, and also making sure that it translates. It’s so specific. To modernize it and to make it fit like, a bunch of different things that don’t normally go together, it’s just kind of like a puzzle piece.”
“So we’re removing some elements and we’re replacing others,” she continued at the time. “I think the script is going to get another whack, and it’s just going to be a slightly different approach but everything else is going to stay the same.”
