5 Trends From Copenhagen Fashion Week That We Can’t Wait to Wear

Copenhagen Fashion Week (CPHFW) is setting the tone for the fashion month to come and we’re all in for a big treat this season. The Spring/Summer 2022 season is the first one returning to in-person shows and the general attitude is that we’re all just happy to be back. From the designer collections to the colorful and whimsical Copenhagen street style, no time was wasted getting back into the swing of things.

The three-day event was rife with major fashion moments. Knitwear designer A. Roege Hove debuted her sixth collection for the first time in a runway show format. Saks Potts showed their latest collection at iconic Danish architect Arne Jacobsen’s home in Charlottenlund. And hometown superstars, Ganni, presented its spring-summer collection on top of Copenhagen’s largest green power plant/artificial ski slope. (Things! Are! Definitely! Happening!)

And while the bounds of creative ideas and designs are endless for Scandinavia’s brightest designers, CPHFW is also getting creative with how they approach and enforce sustainability. CEO of CPHFW Cecilie Thorsmark announced the event’s latest sustainability action plan that details new standards that all brands must follow to be able to present their collections at the fashion week. A few of those guidelines are that 50% of materials used in the collection must be certified organic, upcycled, recycled, not destroying unsold clothing, and repurposing samples (or digitizing the process.) As for the actual in-person runway shows, there’s zero waste in the set design and no single-use plastic (including hangers, garment bags, or other types of plastic clothing protectors) backstage.

This season, designers created their collections with intention. Attribute it to the events of the past year, but the energy of coming back together was channeled into creativity instead of being misplaced. Copenhagen’s fashion footprint has always had a lasting impression of being quirky, colorful, and trend-focused; and every year, the designers display their mastery of understanding what people want to wear and simultaneously how to have loads of fun while doing it.

Ahead, we present you the key five trends that we spotted at CPHFW and explain exactly why you’ll be seeing them everywhere in 2022.

1. INVITE: Pajama Party. ALL WELCOME!

Lately, comfort trumps most if not all factors across pretty much every aspect of our lives, but especially when it comes to fashion. Over the past year, designers and consumers alike began to own more than just one set of PJs. Wearing sleepwear 24/7 is a reality for many and if you want to elevate your look that usually means investing in high-quality materials.

This season of CPHFW saw PJs with ruffled collars and a focus on statement waistbands. Helmstedt, an expert in prints and unique cotton pieces, sent a variety of pajamas down the runway with dreamy fish prints that practically beg to be worn out of your bed and on the streets. With PJ sets this cute, we’re almost beginning to wonder who wears PJs for actual sleeping. (As they say in Copenhagen, godnat.)
