Naomi Osaka is making denim even cooler with her new Levi’s collection. Fresh out of the Tokyo Olympics, the star has worked closely with the American clothing brand to bring new life to all-time favorites by focusing on vintage and upcycled denim — such as reworked Levi’s Trucker Jackets, vintage men’s Levi’s jeans, and more.
The result? A perfect melange of Naomi’s personal style, sportiness, and heritage. “The sustainability aspect was super important to me. I love that every piece in the collection has been recycled or repurposed from old stock,” the four-time Grand Slam women’s singles champion said in the press release.
The limited-edition collection has four distinct pieces: the denim kimono, lace-up short, crystal fringe short, and trucker jacket bustier. The lace-up short is the classic Levi’s denim short reimagined the Osaka way; the trucker jacket bustier is a design that Naomi sketched herself; while the denim kimono is a nod to Naomi’s Japanese heritage. “I always loved wearing kimonos when I was a kid. So, to be able to do it in denim felt really different and a bit unexpected,” says Naomi.
