The 2021 MTV Video Music Awards have finally arrived, and what a memorable night it’s been at VMAs 2021. Between IG-worthy red carpet glam, a star-studded list, and highly anticipated performances including the likes of Olivia Rodrigo, Lil Nas X, Doja Cat, and more, it’s no doubt that this will be one VMAs for the history books.
Another thing that we’ll never forget? The memes, of course. Leave it to Twitter to find a joke in almost everything, whether it’s a confusing red carpet ‘fit or an ad-libbed moment on stage. Ahead, check out some of the trending memes of the night that we’ll be laughing about for a while.

What can we say? The dude loves to pose with his hands…and fans took notice.
Noted Spongebob Squarepants fan Lil Nas X always comes with a reference.
He performed “Industry Baby” in an iconic look complete with a marching band.
Her face is an iconic one, and Debby rocked a version of the same hairstyle on on the red carpet.
So was Doja Cat hosting the VMAs or no?
Doja Cat has a busy schedule at the VMAs as a multi-nominee, performer, and ostensibly, the host of the award show. But in reality, Doja didn’t get around to much hosting (at least in the first half) — the show mostly operated with presenters and endless performances. Regardless, Doja pulled out all the stops with an artistic performance of “You Right.”
But when she did appear as host, she was very memorable.
And speaking of feeling old… reactions to all the VMAs nostalgia were mixed.
Nostalgia was in abundance at this year’s VMAs, but while some performers chose excellent references and made them their own (hi, Normani), some throwbacks were less well-received.
