While many people are looking to lose weight, others would like to gain weight quickly. There can be several reasons for this, the main one being most often to maintain a healthy weight and to stay in good health. Men or women: we are not all equal when it comes to weight gain. Research is therefore looking at solutions adapted to all, and others concerning more specifically men or women. Natura Force reveals the keys to gain weight naturally.
Men and women: unequal in front of the scales
As we discussed at the start of this article, men and women are not equal when it comes to the scales. For weight loss or gain, our efforts will not be the same. The difference lies mainly in our hormonal reactions and our morphology.
Different needs and distribution of fats
Whatever our weight and morphology, women are made up of 20 to 25% fat mass (adipose tissue). Men make up 10 to 15% adipose tissue (Healthy Bodyweights: an alternative perspective. Am Abernathy RP, Black Dr 1996). By adolescence, women secrete a large amount of estrogen. These promote the storage of fat, mainly for pregnancy. This allows the baby to develop properly while drawing the reserves located in the mother’s pelvis, and in her thighs. This is why women will gain weight more easily in these areas.
Men will tend to gain fat in the upper body: chest, stomach, abdomen. Fat gain in these areas thus promotes risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Due to their morphology, men have higher nutritional needs than women. If they want to gain weight, they will have to put in the extra effort. Conversely, women have a harder time losing it! The lean mass of men is also more substantial than that of women. The body will therefore require more energy to maintain it.
Gain weight quickly: Men
To gain weight, men will be able to be less “observant” on the contents of their plate. They will need to be careful not to overdo it, but they are less likely to build up body fat. They will have to consume more calories than they burn and precisely: men burn them easily (Total daily energy expenditure in free-living older African-Americans and Caucasians. Carpenter WH, Fonong T, Toth MJ, Ades PA, Calles- Escandon J, Walston JD, Poehlman ET. 1998)!
Men who want to gain weight are often advised to double the content of their plate. Their metabolism uses more energy at rest and during exercise: to gain weight quickly, they must eat more than women, and more than their nutritional needs.
